Summary : Microfluidics can be applied to a variety of experiments used in medical research. This goes from dynamic cell culture under flow, automated drug testing, up to the development of complex cellular structures mimicking complete organ systems in vitro. Medium microfluidic perfusion mimics the flow of blood, allowing nutrient exchange and the removal of waste products, and also adds shear stress to cells. Flow rate can be very precisely regulated using microfluidic instruments and is an ideal way to better replicate the dynamic physiological environment that cells normally reside in.
