Growth-hormone-releasing hormone (GHRH) pathway in various eye diseases

By : Dr. Wai Kit CHU (Chinese University, Hong Kong)

Date : Tuesday 18 June 2024

11:30 AM - 12:30 PM

Place : Amphi Gustave Roussy

Summary of the presentation

Dr. Chu’s team has been working on the Growth Hormone-Releasing Hormone (GHRH) pathway in various eye diseases in recent years. Multiple ocular tissues express the GHRH receptor. By using specific agonists, antagonists and genetic knockout mice, his team investigates the impacts and molecular mechanisms of this pathway in animals challenged with uveitis, glaucoma, retinoblastoma and pterygium. Interfering with this pathway could be developed as novel treatments.

Biography

Dr. Wai Kit Chu is a cell and molecular biologist, leading the Ophthalmology & Visual Sciences Laboratories at the Chinese University of Hong Kong. He is working on the basic and translational research on multiple eye diseases including uveitis, retinoblastoma, glaucoma, cornea, pterygium, thyroid eye disease, macular degeneration and novel ocular drug delivery. Dr. Chu has been awarded the RGC PROCORE-France/Hong Kong Joint Research Scheme to work with Dr. Min Zhao on inflammatory eye diseases.
