Apprentice Researchers

The “Apprentice Researchers” scheme is an educational and scientific initiative that forms part of l’Arbre des Connaissances.

Every year, this program welcomes middle and high school students who show an interest in science. These students meet one afternoon a month at the Cordeliers Research Center to actively participate in a research project. The aim is to immerse them in a real scientific environment and introduce them to the different stages and methodologies of scientific research.

Supervised by researchers from the center’s various teams, students work on a variety of projects based on the center’s themes. The researchers act as mentors, guiding the students in their experiments, helping them to formulate hypotheses, carry out experiments, analyze data and interpret results.

At the end of the school year, students present their work at a conference, in the presence of their peers, teachers, parents and researchers. This public presentation allows them to share their discoveries.

The Apprentice Researcher program at CRC is coordinated by Christèle Desbois-Mouthon, a researcher in the Oncoliv team headed by Sabine Colnot, in collaboration with Isabelle Tratner, Communications Manager.

We welcomed 8 pairs or triples of students from collège Rodin (75) and lycée Janson de Sailly (75), mobilizing 7 center teams.

For the first time this year, two laboratories have joined us for the congress: the Atmospheres and Space Observations Laboratory (LATMOS) and the Interfaces and Electrochemical Systems Laboratory (LISE).

We welcomed 7 pairs or triples of students from collège Rodin (75) and lycée Janson de Sailly (75), mobilizing 7 center teams.

The CRC, in partnership with the Paris education authority, ran the “Chercheurs en Herbe” program. The aim of this program was to introduce middle and high school students to the world of scientific research. Each year, between 22 and 30 students were welcomed into the center to discover the world of research, its way of thinking and how it works, thanks to the establishment of privileged links with researchers, engineers, technicians and doctoral students.

The sessions, organized in collaboration with the SVT teachers, enabled students to immerse themselves in a real scientific environment. They had the opportunity to actively participate in research projects, understand scientific methodologies and become familiar with the tools and techniques used in laboratories. Exchanges with the center’s professionals gave them a concrete perspective on the different professions and possible careers in research.

The main aim of “Chercheurs en Herbe” was to arouse young people’s interest in science and encourage them to consider careers in this field. Working in close collaboration with teachers and in agreement with institutional bodies such as INSERM and the Paris rectorat, the program ensured pedagogical continuity and alignment with national educational objectives.

A conference was organized at the end of the school year, where students presented their work to an audience of teachers, parents and researchers.
